Meghan Markle may be American, but a genealogist tells ABC News she is a direct descendant of an English king.

US researcher Gary Boyd Roberts, who specializes in finding the American descendants of British monarchs, said that Markle's ancestor on her father's side was a reverend by the name of William Skipper who arrived in New England in 1639.

That reverend is a descendant of King Edward the third, who ruled from 1327 to 1377.

This discovery means Markle and Prince Harry are 17th cousins.
