HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Prairie View A&M's Marching Storm will soon have another major accolade to add to its list: performing in the renowned Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Marching Storm is one of 10 bands across the country performing in Thursday's parade. The band has been preparing for this moment for the past year.

Band director Dr. Timmey Zachery told ABC13 that the Marching Storm's upcoming performance means a lot to the university.

"It's an incredible honor," Zachery said.

While in New York City, band members and staff will get an amazing experience.

"When I took the helm here, that was the number one thing that I wanted to bring to the students -- which is experience," Zachery said. "Through experiences, this is where the wealth of your life comes from."

The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade dates back to 1924.
