Eyewitness News was at the scene as K-9 units searched the area and a helicopter whizzed overhead.
It all unfolded near the intersection of Woodfair Drive and Bissonnet Street on Thursday afternoon as officers searched for the suspects described as 'young.'
In an update shortly after 2:30 p.m., HPD said one of the youngsters was arrested, and a firearm was recovered. Officers said at least one other suspect was yet to be arrested.
Surveillance video obtained by ABC13 showed the brazen robbery. Images showed three young people walking into the store, then walking out with two items that look like alcoholic drinks. Seconds later, a clerk chased after them outside.
A different camera showed the three suspects running off, and at least one shot is heard as the clerk runs to safety. The clerk, named Prakash, told Eyewitness News that the young suspects may be middle school-aged, and the shots fired may not be from a real gun.
"It is an airgun, so I have no problem right now, but if it's a real gun, anything could happen," Prakash said.
When asked what was going through his head when the shots rang, the clerk said he couldn't explain. "We're only thinking of home. Who is waiting for us?" he said. "My mom is sleeping right now, I can't do it."
The clerk said he had called the police immediately. HPD said it was near the area, and the officer responded quickly.
Officers spent the afternoon searching the area, and said the investigation is still underway.
