The Houston Police Department said the two-vehicle crash happened at around 9 p.m. on Sunday on E. Orem Drive near Martindale Drive.
"From what we've gathered in the preliminary investigation, the striking unit, which is a Jeep SUV, was traveling westbound on East Orem Drive at a high rate of speed, according to multiple witnesses. While traveling westbound, it collided with a Honda Accord that was exiting a residential neighborhood," HPD Sgt. Garcia said, adding that a woman inside the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the Honda were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Garcia said. The Jeep's driver and a juvenile inside the vehicle were reportedly unharmed.
"Officers on scene did determine that the driver of the Jeep did show signs of intoxication," the sergeant said.
Garcia added that the driver could face a reckless manslaughter charge that could be upgraded once the district attorney's office reviews the evidence.
