HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Questions are arising after a 15-year-old boy was found shot to death at a southwest Houston apartment complex on Christmas evening, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fatal shooting occurred in the 9200 block of Burdine Street at around 9:45 p.m.

According to HPD, officers were in the area following several calls of hearing either gunshots or fireworks.

Bobbye Jones told ABC13 that she saw a body lying next to her back patio as she was coming home and called the police right away.

"I was getting my stuff together to get my door and come in. I almost stepped on him and said, 'Oh! That's weird,'" Jones said. "I went around and stopped and said, 'That doesn't look right. Let me call 911.'"

Once officers arrived, the teen was found in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The news is devastating to the 15-year-old's girlfriend, who spoke to ABC13 but did not want to publicly share her name.

She said the two of them and his sister were visiting relatives in the apartment complex for Christmas. They were actually waiting for the bus to go home when the shooting occurred.

"Me and his sister were waiting for him at the bus stop, and five minutes in, we were like, 'What's taking so long?'" the girlfriend recalled through her tears. "We were screaming his name, like 'Babam! Babam! Babam!' Which is his nickname, and we didn't get a callback. I called his phone 26 times, and it went straight to voicemail.'"

HPD has said there were no witnesses or suspects at this time.

This investigation is ongoing.
