The Houston Chronicle, a news partner of ABC13, published an article on Aug. 31, 1976, describing a survey conducted by two professors at the University of Houston.
"Dr. James E. Stafford and Dr. Robert Lehnen based their conclusions on a study in which they questioned 1,000 county residents and 133 community leaders on their biggest concerns in regard to the county's future," the article states.
The survey found the biggest concerns for Harris County residents at the time were pollution, noise, and overcrowding.
It also listed inflation, public safety, flood control, and public transportation as major issues among the community.
ABC13 asked Harris County residents this afternoon how they feel about the fact that many issues have remained the same for over five decades.
"What are we doing to stop the violence or the things that are happening?" one man asked while walking at Eleanor Tinsley Park.
In fairness, that 1976 survey didn't promise to have the answers when it was published.
"We did not find any unique solutions or come up with any unique recommendations," Stafford said in the article.
Here's to hoping someone can find those solutions by the time we get to 2076.
