MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Montgomery County man is in jail tonight, after authorities say he tried to make a fiery escape as law enforcement moved in to arrest him on various serious charges.

Authorities say Tywes Null was near his home in Willis when they tried to arrest him for sexual assault of a child Tuesday evening. But instead of surrendering peacefully, he tried to make a run for it.

In video you'll only see on ABC13, Null appears to ram into a gas pump at the Shell station on East Loop 336 in Conroe. In the daylight, the area was still cordoned off. The damage to the gas station is extensive, and the family that owns it is uncertain how long it will take to make repairs.

The incident began as the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department was trying to arrest Null about 15 minutes away on charges of sexual assault of a child. Authorities alleged he fled in his car, speeding through parts of Willis and Conroe before plowing into the gas station. Witnesses told ABC13 the car careened off to the side, and Null jumped out, making a run for it.

He didn't get far. Security camera video shows authorities capturing Null in the woods behind the gas station and marching him back to the scene, where he was arrested and taken to jail.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office says specifics of the sexual assault of a child charge are not available as of now. However, Null has an additional charge of evading arrest added.

He's being held on $250,000 bond.
