UH confirmed the suspension Thursday afternoon after Eyewitness News inquired about a Kick livestream showing him confessing to buying child porn and messaging minors in a conversation with Alex Rosen of the group Poaching Predators.
Eyewitness News isn't naming the faculty member since he hasn't been criminally charged.
Sources told Eyewitness News that UH police have turned the case over to HPD, which will investigate the educator for online solicitation of a minor. HPD has yet to return a request for comment.
"He's a danger to society," Rosen told Eyewitness News.
Rosen said his group has been messaging the teacher since March.
"We identified ourselves as being 13 years old," Rosen said. "He had no qualms about the age, and then the conversation moved over to Discord, and on Discord he solicited multiple sex acts."
After the educator bailed on an earlier meet-up, Rosen said he decided to confront him on campus.
He was filming as he waited in the back of the faculty member's classroom Thursday morning.
"We waited for him to stop talking and then we went up and basically pulled him out of class. He agreed to talk to us," Rosen said.
Rosen spoke to him for more than an hour on campus while livestreaming.
"I gave the signal to one of my guys to call the cops when we think he said enough to authenticate the messages," Rosen said.
UHPD initially took the educator in for questioning, but sources have since said that he declined to speak with investigators and was released.
Meanwhile, UHPD gave Rosen a criminal trespass warning and issued a BOLO alert for him, which he learned about during his interview with Eyewitness News.
"I can't go back to campus so ... it's weird, I mean, I don't think I'll be the one that gets prosecuted out of this but, yeah, I guess if we have another professor to catch there I guess he'll just keep doing his thing," he said.
UH didn't respond to questions about why it issued the BOLO alert.
The faculty member didn't return a message seeking comment.
