Vegetation fire in Liberty County fully contained following mutual aid response, Dayton VFD says

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Crews fought an uncontrolled burn in Liberty County that grew over a hundred acres to prompt a mutual aid response, the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department said.

ABC13 Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog first spotted the fire on 13 Alert Radar as the smoke billowed over the Dayton area.

13 Alert Radar showed the smoke plume caused by the fire north of Dayton.



Officials reported the fire on Thursday afternoon in the area of CR 677 just north of Dayton.

SkyEye was over a massive fire burning in Liberty County that prompted the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department to call for backup.



SkyEye was overhead, showing flames spreading across an empty field.



Dayton VFD said mutual aid was en route to help contain the fire and advised residents to avoid the area.

Firefighters reported the fire burned approximately 766 acres and was fully contained by 6 p.m., adding that crews were working to extinguish hot spots.
