Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega had been charged in the case after their six-week-old twins were found unresponsive in their southeast Houston home, authorities said at that time.
On that day in October 2023, authorities responded to a call regarding infants not breathing. At the time, authorities said there were no visible signs of trauma to either child, but an autopsy later determined they died from multiple injuries caused by a blunt object.

Afterward, police said both girls were malnourished and that some of their injuries were days or even weeks old.
Calderon's sentencing began on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Vega, who was charged with capital murder in the incident, was sentenced to 40 years in January 2026 for the girls' deaths.
