Tony Levine out as University of Houston head coach

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Tony Levine is out as head football coach at the University of Houston after three years.

Levine had a meeting with UH athletic director Mack Rhodes this morning, after which the school announced that they were making a change.

Levine went 21-17 in three seasons after taking over for Kevin Sumlin, who left for Texas A&M. The Cougars lost Saturday at Cincinnati to finish a 7-5 regular season. READ LEVINE'S HEAD COACH EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT

Defensive Coordinator David Gibbs will take over as interim coach in the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth Jan. 2 as UH takes on Pittsburgh.
