Texas True Crime: Someone She Knew

Updated 2 hours ago
BEAUMONT, Texas (KTRK) -- For almost three decades, the killer of a beloved Beaumont school teacher went undetected.

On January 14, 1995, Mary Catherine Edwards was not responding to phone calls. When her parents went to her townhome to check on her, they found a horrific scene. Her body was slumped over her bathtub. She had been handcuffed and brutally assaulted.

Edwards, 31, was a sixth grade teacher at Price Elementary School.

Over the years, Beaumont Police and the Texas Rangers followed lead after lead. Her killer remained undetected - until a stunning breakthrough came, when a husband and wife detective team took a fresh look at the case. There was one critical piece of evidence the killer left behind in Edwards' home - his DNA.

The detectives teamed up with a private DNA lab in The Woodlands and a genetic genealogist in Louisiana, who used new technology to identify the killer - and it was someone unexpected.

In our newest episode of Texas True Crime, Someone She Knew, Tom Abrahams sits down with the investigators and DNA experts who finally solved the case, after nearly 30 years. Plus, we see the moments caught on camera when the killer is finally confronted by police.
