HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- There is a lot of excitement with the start of a new season.

The Texas Southern University football team opened the season against North Carolina Central this weekend, coming off its first winning season in 25 years.

"We're very excited to get started, be able to tackle it, hit someone else and just go out, compete," head coach Cris Dishman said.

Coach Dishman is entering his third season as head coach and ended the pregame interview ready for a win.

"I was about to tackle you, man," he said.

The Tigers trailed by 10 at the Break, 24-14, but outscored the Eagles 28-6 in the second half to win the opener 42-30.

TSU is playing its home games this year at Aldine Independent School District's W.W. Thorne Stadium.

Athletic Director Ashley Robinson is new on the job but has hit the ground running.

"Very excited, very excited about the vision of (TSU) President Crawford," Robinson said. "Very excited about where we can take this program. I aim to support our coaches and student-athletes and provide them with what they need to be successful. We have a lot of talent on campus, from coaches to students, but now, you know, as administrators, we've got to make sure that we support them. And that's what I'm here for, to get them that support so we can take this thing to another level."

One of the big things Robinson has discussed with President J.W. Crawford III is the vision for the future, which includes a new stadium on campus.

"Yeah, that's a big vision from President Crawford," he said. "You know, we have a big capital campaign, you know, for facilities and interior plans, very excited about that, and that's going to happen. It's going to happen. So we're going to make sure that happens (new stadium), and that's one of my tasks of being the athletic director at Texas Southern."

Robinson says it's not a matter of if a new stadium will be built on campus, but when.

When asked when this might happen, Robinson responded, "We don't have a clue, but I can tell you it's coming, I can tell you it's coming," he said. "I can tell you the best is yet to come."
