League City officials said they responded to a call about a disturbance and reports of gunshots being heard shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 2200 block of Golden Sails Drive.
When they arrived, officers said they spoke with a woman who said her husband was inside the home with their five children and had fired a shot outside during an argument.
Officers said they then saw the man briefly come out holding a child, with a pistol holstered on his right hip. They added that he did not follow the officers' commands and went back inside.
LCPD Officer Trevor Montero stated that, due to concerns for the children's safety, the Combined Agency Response Team (CART), which comprises officers and negotiators from League City, Pearland, Alvin, and Webster, was called in.
Montero said SWAT officers and negotiators spoke with the suspect, who later agreed to leave the house unarmed, and he was taken into custody without any problems.
Officials said no one was injured and the mother and children were safely reunited.
LCPD said the investigation is still ongoing and urges anyone with information to contact them.
