Homero Reyes appeared in front of a judge overnight on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators say it was on Saturday night, along Hempstead Highway at Gessner, that Reyes opened fire on HPD Officer Jake Parker, who was driving to work in his personal vehicle.

Parker, who officers said returned fire, took a bullet to the shoulder and is now recovering in the hospital.
The police department said this appears to be a case of road rage.
Police said the car containing Reyes and two other suspects took off, but they were ultimately detained.
The Hedwig Village Police Department said this was thanks to "solid police work" by one of its officers, Julie Buhs, who heard a description of the truck the suspects were in over her radio.
She told ABC13 she made eye contact with someone in that vehicle before following it for HPD.

"He literally just looked at me... I looked at him. I'm like, 'That's the vehicle HPD is looking for," Buhs said. "I quickly made a U-turn, got through the intersection, and then I deactivated my red and blues cause I was on that traffic stop, and then I trailed behind it, alerting HPD of the vehicle."
A second suspect, Diego Rosales, is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.
He also appeared overnight and has since bonded out of jail. ABC13 is working to learn more information about the third suspect.
