HPD said that officers responded to the shooting when a man called police saying that a suspect was pointing a gun at him and his 1-year-old son at 6:44 p.m. in the 14300 block of Westheimer Road on June 11. Upon arrival, police say officers told the suspect to drop his firearm, but he refused and ran.
Police said that the suspect ended up in the 2200 block of Briarview after the chase. The suspect didn't comply with law enforcement and pointed his gun at officers, authorities said.
The suspect was identified as Letonto Gaspard, according to HPD.
HPD said that an officer, who has been with the department for five years, discharged a firearm, hitting the suspect. No officers were injured at the scene, HPD said.
On July 10, HPD released body cam video of the officer shooting the man in the 2200 block of Briarview from June 11.
