Suspect drives off pier while running from police

PORTLAND, Oregon (KTRK) -- A suspect drove off the end of a pier in a desperate attempt to escape from police.

After his pickup truck splashed into the Columbia River, 27-year-old Timofey Erofeeff got out and tried to swim away from officers.

He quickly turned around and swam back toward the pier.

Rescuers threw him a life vest, but he still had to wait for a boat to pick him up.

Erofeeff was treated for hypothermia and taken to jail.

Police originally wanted to arrest him for suspected trespassing and parole violation. Now he's facing charges of reckless driving and attempting to elude police.
