The Houston Police Department said officers were dispatched to a home at 1:30 p.m. on Broadhurst Drive.
Authorities believe that five people were inside the home, where an argument between two men led to the deadly stabbing.
Upon arrival, police said they found the man dead at the scene. HPD said a suspect, who has not been identified, was arrested near Almeda Elementary, which is located close to the scene, after the school alerted HISD police.
He was then taken into custody.
Details are limited to what led up to the argument. The relationship between the suspect and the victim is unclear.
HISD sent parents a letter that reads:
"All students and staff are safe. Almeda Elementary School was placed on brief secure mode this afternoon after a suspicious person trespassed onto the campus. The person was quickly detained by HISD PD and the secure mode has been lifted. Due to the ongoing police activity near the back of the campus, all students will be dismissed at the front of the school."
"The safety and well-being of your child is our top priority. HISD PD remains on scene and is working with the Houston Police Department."
"At this time, we ask that parents stay where they are and remain available to receive updates and instructions as needed."
"As always, we encourage our community to report any concerns or suspicious activity to the HISD Police Department at 713-892-7777."
