HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was arrested early Friday morning after a SWAT scene that stemmed from a family disturbance call in southwest Houston, according to the police department.

Officials said around 7: 20 p.m., Thursday, officers responded to Clarewood Dr near Lugary in response to a call regarding the suspect who allegedly cut his brother's throat after an argument.

The Houston Police Department said the suspect's family called 911, and officers arrived at the scene, but were met with the suspect allegedly holding what police said were knives. According to officials, the suspect did not cooperate and refused to surrender before retreating back inside the home.

Officials said officers held the scene until SWAT arrived. A hostage negotiation team was deployed and tried talking to the man, but he did not comply.

HPD said SWAT used several tactics, including a drone and a robot dog to make sure the suspect was inside. Eventually, tear gas was deployed inside the home, causing the suspect to surrender and come out.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a family member. He was not injured.

The suspect's brother did not go to the hospital but was checked out and treated at the scene, HPD said.

Police believe the suspect lived with his brother, his brother's wife and their two kids at the home. HPD said no one else was injured in the incident.
