The creator of the film, 15-year-old Lindsey Hunter is not deaf, nor is the actress playing the role of the deaf student, but the film still touches on Hunter's personal experience. Hunter's father is blind and she has spent most of her life around disabled people.
In fact, when she first showed "Silent" to her father, Lindsey had to describe each scene to him. The story brought her dad to tears.

"If you don't have something nice to say, remain silent," said Hunter.
The film was posted on the Facebook page for Hunter's school district and took off. The video has been shared more than 4,000 times since it was posted on Monday.
Hunter hopes to get a scholarship to the USC Film School so she can pursue a career in film.
