HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was shot as many as nine times on a busy downtown sidewalk Saturday afternoon following a verbal confrontation.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. outside the Chipotle Mexican Grill on Texas Avenue near Main Street, close to the historic Rice Hotel.

Sources say the victim, identified in court records as Cameron Adams, is the son of a Harris County Sheriff's Office sergeant. The department confirms it is supporting the family during this time.

Witnesses told ABC13 that the suspect, Nicholas Youngblood, 21, had been selling cookies on the sidewalk before the violence erupted. Court records list a cookie business as his employer.

Those who work nearby say Adams delivered food in the downtown area for online delivery companies and was a familiar face.

Video shared with Eyewitness News shows Adams arriving on a bicycle outside the restaurant. A verbal exchange appears to take place before the suspect, dressed in all pink, pulls out a gun and fires. ABC13 paused the video before the shooting.

Investigators are looking into whether the suspect took issue with how Adams and another man he was with looked at him before the confrontation.

Houston police responded quickly and took Youngblood into custody a few blocks away.

Records state he shot at the victims nine times.

Youngblood has been charged with Adams' murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at the other man, Curtis Moore. Moore was not injured, according to HPD.

Youngblood is being held in jail with no bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Editor's Note: The article has been updated to identify the shooting victim as Cameron Adams and a second victim, who survived, as Curtis Moore.
