HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man is in the hospital, and a suspect is on the run after a fight outside a nightclub on Washington Avenue led to a shooting early Sunday morning, HPD said.
Officers said they responded to the shooting call and found the victim at the 5100 block of Lillian Street. It's after HPD said it started as a fight outside the nightclub located at Washington Avenue near Roy Street, about one block away.
"The victim was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male in front of the club," Lt. Khan said.
Khan added that shortly after the fight, the man pulled out a gun and shot the victim before fleeing the scene.
Nightlife safety along the Washington Avenue corridor became a focus of Mayor John Whitmire in 2024 when he announced efforts to crack down on illegal activity in the neighborhood.
HPD urged anyone with information to contact the Major Assaults Division or Crime Stoppers.
