Shooter detained, woman dead after shooting in northeast Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An ongoing argument between neighbors resulted in a woman being shot dead and the suspect claiming self-defense at a northeast Houston apartment complex on Monday afternoon, police officers say.

According to HPD, officers responded to the shooting at 4:05 p.m. on 5117 Lavender Street, where they said they found a woman with a gunshot wound. Police said the woman was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

HPD said a man turned himself in following the incident. According to investigators, the man and the woman lived next to each other and had an ongoing argument. The man told officers that the woman assaulted him with a stick before he shot her in self-defense, according to police.

HPD said the man is detained, adding that charges are still pending with the District Attorney's office.
