Puppy rescue leads to discovery of sidewalk hazard near school, Little York Fire Department says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- First responders rescued fluffy friends taking refuge under a sidewalk, then dug deeper and found a large void that posed a potential hazard to pedestrians.

A bystander called firefighters after spotting a puppy underneath a sidewalk on Wednesday, according to the Little York Fire Department. They added that crews rescued a pup, but quickly discovered there were more.



Two Harris County Pets Officers were called to assist crews in rescuing two more dogs, LYFD said.

After two hours of pawing around, LYFD said that another discovery was made: a large washed-out void under the sidewalk.



The portion of sidewalk near Heritage Elementary is a potential collapse hazard, according to LYFD.



County crews were called out to address the potential collapse hazard, LYFD said.

LYFD said Wednesday that crews rescued two of the three puppies and were working to trap the third.
