MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A pickup truck caught on fire on Friday evening due to improperly disposed of fireworks, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office said.

According to MCFMO, crews from the North Montgomery County Fire Department responded to reports of the vehicle fire in Emerson Estates near Highway 105 East.

Authorities said that residents reported the fire after they discharged fireworks, picked up the debris, and placed it in the bed of their truck.

Officials did not say if anyone was hurt in the fire.

MCFMO shared with the public ways to safely and properly dispose of fireworks. Officials said that you should soak your spent fireworks for any duds in a bucket of water for at least 15 minutes, adding that they recommend leaving the debris overnight.

You should then drain any excess water, fire officials said, and place the firework debris in a sealable bag in order to maintain moisture, preventing the debris from drying out and reigniting.

Lastly, officials said you should place any bags of debris as far away as possible from your home or anything that could catch on fire and cause damage.
