Pearland residents may soon pay 12% more for utilities if council approves proposed increase

PEARLAND, Texas (KTRK) -- Pearland residents may soon have to pay higher utility bills if city leaders approve a proposed increase in water and sewer rates.

According to the Pearland City Council agenda, councilmembers will discuss the proposed rate hike in a special meeting on Monday.

The agenda calls for a 12% increase in water and sewer rates, to be implemented in the 2027 fiscal year.

City officials estimate the average household would pay nearly $14 more per month if the proposal is approved.

Officials said the increase is needed to generate enough revenue to cover debt and operating costs. They also said the proposed rate would be comparable to what homeowners in nearby cities pay.
