During a Tuesday night meeting, the board said students who attended McMasters Elementary School would be rezoned to neighboring Parks Elementary School.
"Additionally, the Board voted to restructure Tegeler Community School into two school-within-a-school programs, with one at Dobie High School and one at South Houston High School," the district said in a statement following the vote.
The district cited funding constraints, operational costs, and declining enrollment as reasons for closure and consolidation. Many parents and community members voiced their concerns during Tuesday night's meeting.
"We are heartbroken, we are not happy about this situation," McMasters Elementary School parent Delta Madena told ABC13 earlier this month.
According to the district, all staff and faculty will still have a job for the upcoming school year.
