HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston Independent School District is expected to vote on the more than $1 million it will take to rename several schools. But outraged HISD parents, alumni and taxpayers are gearing up for a big legal fight to stop the vote.

The district already voted to rename several schools that currently have names with ties to the Confederacy.

The whole process will cost HISD approximately $1.2 million and the board will vote on that price tag tonight.

Critics say a district that claims to be in debt shouldn't spend money that way. Parents and alumni who oppose the idea have filed a lawsuit.
