Officer injured after being hit by suspected drunk driver in north Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An officer was rushed to the hospital after a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated crashed into him in north Houston, the Houston Police Department says.

HPD said the officer was trying to block traffic from entering a freeway ramp following a crash on I-45 near West Road early Saturday morning.

"While blocking traffic, a truck plowed into the officers' vehicles, causing severe damage and injuries to the officer," Sergeant Mike Barrow said.

HPD said the suspect was taken into custody, and it is believed the crash was possibly alcohol related. They added that the officer was later stabilized.
