According to HPD, officers responded to a shooting at 10:29 am. in the 6000 block of Belarbor Street.
HPD said that the attorney general's office and Precinct 7 officials were conducting a warrant service for a parole violation.
HPD officers initiated SWAT activation for an armed suspect accused of sexual assault, who was barricaded inside a home, according to preliminary information police released.
HPD said that a negotiator from the attorney general's office talked to the suspect for 1.5 hours.
At around 12:30 p.m., the suspect exited his residence with a high-powered rifle and opened fire on SWAT officers, HPD said.
Officials said that a SWAT officer, who is a 16-year veteran with the department, fired towards the suspect. The officer was not injured, police said.
The suspect was identified as a 36-year-old Black man and was pronounced dead by HFD paramedics, according to HPD.
The scene is currently still under investigation, authorities said.
