MONTGOMERY, Texas (KTRK) -- City leaders in Montgomery say they're moving forward with a plan to pave over two historical burial sites to make way for a parking lot.
At Tuesday night's city council meeting, dozens of residents spoke out against the plan that council members say is intended to beautify the area near the Davis Museum.
According to residents, the issue is that the graves of two children lie in the same area. The gravesites date back to the 1850's, and residents said paving over the graves is destroying some of the town's history.
Montgomery Mayor Sara Countryman said the plan was approved by the city council back in 2022. She said no current council members even had a hand in its design.
