HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One man was critically injured, and a second one is expected to be OK after a shooting broke out at a pool party at an apartment complex on Tuesday night, police said.

The Houston Police Department said the shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of MLK Boulevard. It was reported that a fight broke out and gunshots were fired.

Police say one of the victims, an unidentified 30-year-old, was shot in the knee, while a second victim in his 20s was shot multiple times in the stomach and is in critical condition.

"The pool area is a catastrophe. Stuff all over the place. Shell casings. A lot of blood," said Lieutenant R. Willkens. "Don't know exactly what made this start, but we know there was a lot of folks having a pool party."

Lt. Willkens says at least one person is detained who did have a weapon, but it's unclear if that's the person who opened fire.

An investigation continues into the shooting.
