McFarland, USA movie subject and Bakersfield police officer charged in narcotics case

BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Damacio Diaz, who was featured in the movie McFarland, USA and is currently a detective with the Bakersfield Police Department, has been arrested on bribery and drug trafficking charges.

The investigation into the case involved the FBI, DEA, IRA and the Bakersfield Police Chief.

Diaz became nationally known as one of the three Diaz brothers portrayed in the film McFarland, USA. The movie is based on the 1987 cross country McFarland High School track team and their unlikely rise to a state championship.
