HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A tragic scene unfolded on the Gulf Freeway overnight as a man was struck by a pickup truck driver while his son watched.
Investigators say a man and his 9-year-old son were in their red Avenger when they hit a guardrail on the Gulf Freeway at Tellepsen.

The man got out to get a look at the damage to his vehicle and was then hit by the driver of a black pickup truck.
Sadly, the man died at the scene.

The 9-year-old boy was not injured as he stayed behind inside the car.
Police say the driver of the pickup truck did stop and is cooperating with investigators.
