Man starts chase with DPS trooper after driving in wrong direction near Highway 288, authorities say

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Department of Public Safety said one of its troopers was involved in a pursuit on Monday morning after the driver drove on the wrong side of the road in Brazoria County.

According to DPS, the trooper began a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving the wrong way along McHard Road at about 11:30 a.m.

While the vehicle stopped for the trooper, officials said, the driver refused to exit, prompting the trooper to pull out his weapon. The driver then took off, again in the wrong direction on McHard Road, authorities said.

Investigators said the trooper chased the suspect for about seven minutes before coming to a stop on the feeder road of Highway 288 at McHard Road. The trooper then pulled out his taser before the driver surrendered and was taken into custody, officials said.

DPS said no shots were fired during the incident.



Officials said that the driver was found to have a warrant for a misdemeanor assault charge in Harris County. Authorities did not immediately reveal the suspect's identity.
