MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Deputies say a suspect is in the hospital after he reportedly shot himself inside a McDonald's in Montgomery County on Monday.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said deputies were first dispatched to a welfare check at a cemetery in Magnolia regarding a man threatening suicide by firearm. The sheriff's office said deputies tried to detain him, but he was able to evade custody and flee into Harris County.

At about 11 a.m., MCSO said they were informed the man was at the McDonald's at 32323 Highway 249 and had barricaded himself in a bathroom.

Officials said that while MCSO and Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies tried to make contact with the man to de-escalate the situation, he told deputies he was armed and refused to comply.

The man ultimately fired a single shot and hurt himself, according to MCSO.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the wounded suspect was taken to the hospital. MCSO identified him as Shane Moresco and said he remains in critical condition.

Montgomery County officials said the district attorney's office had previously accepted charges against Moresco related to an earlier incident, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence) and evading arrest in a vehicle.
