HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was taken into custody after spraying a hotel lobby with bear spray in downtown Houston on Tuesday, according to the Houston Police Department.

According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, officers responded to the scene at 6:30 p.m. at a hotel at 900 Rusk Street.

Police say that a man, described to be in his 60s or 70s, entered the lobby and started spraying bear spray. Furthermore, the man went up to a room on the 17th floor of the hotel and closed the door, HPD said.

Authorities say that the man refused to come outside the room. After further investigation, officers also found out that the man had a warrant for an assault to a similar incident in the Montrose area last week, police said.

Police say the man eventually cooperated with officers and he was taken into custody.

HPD units and the bomb squad entered the man's hotel room and found chemicals, cans of several bear spray, cameras, and a taped sink, according to HPD.

HPD says no one was injured, and people staying in the hotel's 17th floor were evacuated safely.
