According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call about a carjacking in the 11800 block of Tidwell Road at about 2 p.m.
Deputies said that when they were investigating the scene, the owner of the stolen vehicle, identified as 56-year-old Louis Erebia, located the vehicle.
A family friend of Erebia told Eyewitness News that Erebia's son's truck was the one that was carjacked at gunpoint and that Erebia tracked it using GPS and located it at a gas station near the North Loop and Airline. That's when the family friend said a confrontation followed that led to a crash.
According to investigators, after the confrontation, the suspect shot Erebia and a second man before fleeing.
Erebia was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. HCSO said the second man who was shot at the scene did not die.
HCSO said its CSI and homicide detectives responded to the shooting scene and conducted the investigation.
Officials said London Hogan Sr., 37, was charged with murder for his involvement in the deadly shooting, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery. Authorities said Hogan was booked in the Harris County Jail.
A family friend of Erebia said they're having a press conference on Monday, June 8, with the family.
In a statement, the family described Erebia as a husband, a father of five, and a grandfather of three.
"To those who knew him, he was much more than a victim in a news story; he was the kind of man this world desperately needs more of. Louis loved his family with every ounce of his heart," the Erebia family said in a statement.
