HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man is in jail and charged with murder after reportedly killing a father of five who was tracking his son's stolen truck in north Houston on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call about a carjacking in the 11800 block of Tidwell Road at about 2 p.m.

Deputies said that when they were investigating the initial carjacking scene, the father of the carjacking victim, identified as 56-year-old Louis Erebia, located the vehicle at a different scene.

A family friend of Erebia told Eyewitness News that Erebia tracked his son's stolen truck using GPS and located it at a gas station near the North Loop and Airline. That's when the family friend said a confrontation followed, leading to a crash.

According to investigators, after the confrontation, the suspect shot Erebia and a second man before fleeing.

Erebia was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. HCSO has not released information on the second man who was shot.

Officials said London Hogan Sr., 37, was charged with murder for his involvement in the deadly shooting, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery. Authorities said Hogan was booked in the Harris County Jail.

In a statement, the family described Erebia as a husband, a father of five, and a grandfather of three.

"To those who knew him, he was much more than a victim in a news story; he was the kind of man this world desperately needs more of. Louis loved his family with every ounce of his heart," the Erebia family said in a statement.
