HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A maintenance worker at a Houston motel was shot multiple times after police said he told a group of people to leave the property.

The shooting happened after midnight Sunday in Houston's south side on Old Spanish Trail at La Salette Street, the Houston Police Department said.

Officers said they responded to a call about a shooting and found a maintenance worker in his late 50s with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

According to HPD Lt. J.P. Horelica, after the maintenance worker told the group to leave the motel, the group returned sometime later, confronted the worker, and shot him multiple times.

Police said the victim was standing in the doorway of his room when he was shot.

Investigators described the suspects as four males and one female. According to authorities, they are believed to be in their late teens to early 20s, and they were wearing hoodies of different colors.

Authorities have not determined whether any of the suspects were staying at the motel.

The investigation is ongoing.
