MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) -- A large gas leak has been contained after prompting multiple street closures near Sienna Parkway in Missouri City, on Friday afternoon, according to officials.

Officials stated that a construction crew subcontracted by Ezee Fiber caused the leak.

Missouri City Mayor Robin J. Elackatt said the fire department discovered a 6-inch gas line had been struck and called a hazmat team.

Traffic was diverted from Steep Bank Trace to McKeever Road, causing delays on Friday afternoon. Since then, all southbound lanes into Sienna Parkway and one northbound lane have been reopened.

A stop work order has been issued on all active Ezee Fiber right-of-way permits annexed into Missouri City, Elackatt said.

Elackatt said the Missouri City council will consider an amendment to its infrastructure design manual in a council meeting on Monday, Feb. 16. The mayor said the potential amendment would require additional requirements for right-of-way permits for all utility companies, like Ezee Fiber.
