Deputy constables responded to the shooting at The Pierpont Apartments in the 23700 block of Springwoods Village Parkway around 7:15 pm.
According to the Pct. 4 Constable's office, the teen victim was selling vape pens at the complex where he lives, in an online transaction that was arranged on social media, something officials warn against.
"If you are going to meet somebody, we encourage you to meet in a public place," advised Captain Juan Flores. "Somewhere where there are more people around, in front of a police station or fire house, but don't do it here, where you can be targeted."
Flores said the teen was shot at least three times and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Three young males, including the shooter, fled the scene and got into a waiting car, he added.
Officers are working to recover surveillance video of the shooting, which could provide images of the suspects and the vehicle.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the constable's office at 281-376-3472 or Crime Stoppers.
