The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the two women and the man were found dead inside a unit at the Shadow Ridge Apartments off Old Walters Road at about 2:30 p.m.
According to investigators, a man called 911 shortly before 2 p.m. to report the deaths after going to the apartment to check on a colleague who did not show up to work on Monday.
Sgt. Michael Ritchie with HCSO stated that there were no signs of forced entry at the apartment and that a dog was found alive.
In an update on Tuesday, the sheriff's office said the shooting involved 30-year-old Yaquelin Arias Rivas, her 19-year-old younger sister, Saidia Machado, and Rivas' estranged ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez.
Officials said they determined this was a murder-suicide, that Rodriguez shot the two women before turning the gun on himself.
According to HCSO, Rivas also had two children who lived in the apartment but were at school when the shooting happened.
An investigation into the incident remains underway.
