HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- For 45 years, the Houston Police Department Bike Relay Team has been turning miles into hope. In July, the team of 27 riders cycled more than 1,600 miles from Houston to Niagara Falls, New York to raise awareness and support for blood cancer research. So far, they have raised nearly $100,000 for Blood Cancer United.
The relay is a true team effort, with riders taking turns covering roughly 100-mile stretches around the clock until they reach their destination. Along the way, each cyclist carries a special reminder of why they ride. The team shares their motivation through every mile in the video above.
