HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The westbound lanes of US-290 were shut down for hours on Tuesday after an 18-wheeler overturned at Eldridge, according to authorities.

The Cy-Fair Fire Department said the lanes were closed as emergency units worked to clear the scene.

At about 3:44 p.m., TxDOT Houston shared that the main lanes were not expected to clear for multiple hours, advising drivers to seek alternate routes. In a 6:30 p.m. update, however, Harris County Sheriff's Office Lt. Terry Garza said all lanes were reopened for traffic.

Cy-Fair FD added that HAZMAT was assisting with a fuel spill and that five people were taken to the hospital and are OK.

Images shared by authorities showed the overturned 18-wheeler, pallets scattered across the lanes, and tire parts over the barricade.

SkyEye13 was over the scene on Tuesday afternoon, capturing images of the crash as well as responding emergency crews.

Details on what led to the crash were not immediately available.
