Multiple HPD units were on the scene at 700 Congress and Louisiana, where the intersection was closed for a period of time during the crash investigation.
The accident happened at about 6:15 a.m.
According to police, the bus was northbound on Louisiana, coming from the nearby park and ride lot at the same time that the HPD cruiser was heading westbound on Congress.
It appeared that the bus hit the cruiser in the intersection, police added.
SkyEye video showed the HPD cruiser up against a pole.
Video also showed people sitting on a gurney, being assessed by EMS next to the bus.
Some passengers on the bus at the time complained of minor pain, HPD said.
METRO's chief said that the bus driver and another person were also taken to the hospital. The chief didn't give an exact number of people on the bus.
The officer was conscious and transported to the hospital, police told ABC13.
Police are investigating to determine who is at fault, but believe someone ran the light.
