HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Priscilla Salisbury's voice fills a room with joy.

A voice she uses as a featured soloist and as a Professor of vocal studies at Lone Star College. This weekend, Priscilla is nominated for two Catholic Music Awards in Rome, Italy.

Her parents, David and Alicia, are beaming with pride. Her mom can't wait, "We are so proud of her. We are so excited to travel with her to Rome."

Mom and Dad saw their daughter Priscilla's promise and passion at an early age, "She was always singing at church and school... she is very happy when she's performing," Mom said proudly.

Priscilla moved to Houston with her parents from Mexico when she was in 5th grade. Music was, and still is, her safe haven.

Priscilla said, "Going into middle school, I didn't speak the language, didn't know the cultures. I did well in music. It was home."

A home that turned into an incredible career. The Jersey Village High School graduate has performed with the Houston Grand Opera, as well as with operas all over the country.

She holds an opera degree from the University of Texas, as well as a Master of Sacred Music from the University of St. Thomas.

The Catholic Music Awards are now recognizing her voice and passion.

"The Catholic Music Awards are in their first year," Priscilla said. "I turned in a couple of songs that I had recorded. I turned them in in the English category and the Spanish category."

Priscilla was nominated for both Best Female Singer and Best New Artist. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 27, at the Auditorium Conciliazione in the Vatican.
