During Tuesday's World Cup safety press conference, city officials said there are no major safety threats at this time.
They said a full lockdown with increased security will be in place starting Thursday.
Security measures are already visible around NRG Stadium, which will be known as Houston Stadium during the FIFA World Cup.
"FIFA's full lockdown will go into effect this Thursday, June 4, where all the screening locations and access protocols will be as locked down as possible June 4th through our final match on July 4th," said John Coppins, VP of operations for Houston's World Cup host committee.
Houston Stadium will host seven matches.
"FIFA will deploy an eight-foot-tall anti-climb, concrete-reinforced fence around the property and essentially control different pedestrian screening locations," Coppins said.
The safety efforts won't stop at the gates.
"The mayor mentioned the drone operations. We do have those kinds of things involved," said Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz.
Officials aren't sharing specifics about their drone security strategy, but they said specialized training and equipment are in place.
"Drones are kind of a nightmare in this scenario because they bypass all your on-ground security," said Matt Sailor, CEO of IC Realtime Security Solutions.
Sailor, a surveillance technology expert, said anti-drone systems now exist that can create an additional layer of protection.
"When the drone approaches that anti-frequency technology, it would block it, and the drone would fall outside of a perimeter," Sailor said. "They have technology where it's able to send the drone home, and all drones on their controllers have a 'come home' feature."
Ultimately, officials ask that only their drones fly.
"If you do want to fly your own personal drone, I'd suggest you don't," Chief Diaz said. "We have a lot of people. We don't want one to fall. We don't want a minor child to use one, make a mistake and land on someone."
Houston's World Cup journey begins Saturday, June 14, when Germany takes on Curacao at NRG Stadium.
