On Thursday, the Houston Police Department shared surveillance video and the sketches of the suspect in the July 17 shooting.
Authorities said the shooting happened at about 12:20 p.m. in the 10800 block of Sabo Road.
Police said the victim was at a car wash at the above address when he was approached by the suspect, who pointed a pistol at the victim and demanded money. HPD said the victim reached for his vehicle's door to get his wallet when the suspect shot him in the stomach and fled.
Police said a nearby Harris County Precinct 2 Constable deputy heard the gunshot, got into his vehicle and drove across the street where he saw the suspect fleeing. The deputy, in uniform, followed the suspect with emergency lights on.
HPD said that while the suspect was fleeing, he turned around and shot at the deputy's vehicle, hitting it more than once. The suspect then fled into an apartment complex, where the deputy lost sight of him, police said.
The victim, a 43-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. The deputy's vehicle was shot at, but the deputy was not injured, police said.
Meanwhile, HPD shared two images of the suspect, whom they described as a young Black man who was wearing a purple hooded sweatshirt and shorts.
