HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Travelers at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) could see some delays in flights due to runway construction.
According to Houston Airports, IAH will undergo a planned upgrade "designed to strengthen safety and extend the life of critical airport infrastructure."
As a result, Houston Airports has temporarily closed runway 9/27 for a 90-day resurfacing and lightning improvement project.
The project, funded through a Federal Aviation Administration grant, will involve grinding the concrete surface, retexturing it, and regrooving it. It also includes installing 380 new LED runway lights to improve visibility for pilots.
Due to the closure, IAH will continue operating with four active runways, ensuring safe and efficient flight operations, Houston Airports said.
