According to the Sugar Land police Department, something hit the livestock trailer in the 15800 block of the Southwest Freeway, causing a crash between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Officials did not immediately say how many vehicles were involved in the incident.
The driver was not killed in the incident, according to police. According to the Sugar Land Fire Department, one of the horses that was on the trailer was injured in the crash. Authorities said due to its injuries, the horse had to be euthanized by a veterinarian at the scene. It is unknown how many animals were in the trailer during the incident.
Officials said as emergency crews responded to the scene, three lanes of the highway were blocked as they waited for a new trailer to arrive to move the livestock.
Authorities said they investigated the incident and that the roadway has since been cleared.
